If you’re up in Portland tonight, the southern garage rock band The Black Lips are playing at the Wonder Ballroom on tour to support their new album, Arabia Mountain. As the Lips are well known for their rowdy performances (which I’ve personally experienced and can vouch for), I would highly suggest that you roll. In other news, University of Oregon journalism student and my dear friend Joey Geglia did a nice little write-up that reported the Vagina-gram fundraiser. It was featured on KVAL’s online news, and received hilarious web backlash:

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, and don’t forget to laugh at how awkward it probably was for someone to sing pop songs in a vagina suit to complete strangers all week. According to Oregon Live, the fabulous and elegant pop icon Sir Elton John is set to play the opening concert at the Matt Knight Arena on February 17th. Also, I can’t tell if it’s a joke or not but apparently, Elton will be dressed in a different football uniform for every song. That has to be a joke, right?

According to the the Live Nation press release, U of O Athletic Director Rob Mullens described Sir Elton as “the most prolific artist we could have dreamed of hosting for a concert as we open the Matthew Knight Arena.” Haha, I don’t know that most Eugenians would agree Elton John is the dream candidate, but I’ll tell you what… I’LL BE THERE.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 3rd and will cost $29.00, $79.00 and $129.00. Oh, how affordable (not).

Haven’t heard about the Dr. Dog show on Halloween? Shame, Shame on you!!

Let’s get the basics down first. The WOW Hall is, in our opinion, the best sounding, badass venue in Eugene. On my first Halloween in Eugene, I caught Architecture in Helsinki at the WOW and still can’t stop talking about it. Pair the badass venue and past history of face-and-body-melting Halloween parties with Dr. Dog, Philly’s psychedelic-classic rock band of the present age, and you have yourself a quintessential Halloween dance-party extravaganza.

Dr. Dog, who released their fifth full-length album, Shame, Shame this past spring, are currently on tour with Here We Go Magic, who will be joining them for all but two dates of the scattered US tour, and Good Old War, who will be opening the show on All Hallows Eve. If you’re concerned about missing your halloween party, I can assure you it will still be going on after the show lets out. Do yourself a favor… don’t miss this show!! (And wear a costume, or you’re a chump!)

**Dr. Dog will also be doing a day-of in-store performance at CD World out on West 11th with a costume competition for a free pair of tickets. Sounds like fun, eh? See ya there!

Wristbands are $65 or $90, depending on whether you want to see only one or both of the acts on the (Nike) Pioneer Courthouse Stage (The Decemberists/The National). While the price might seem steep, $65 bucks is totally affordable for a possible 183 concerts that will be happening in venues all over town.

“Nancy! Come quick. There’s trouble on the University of Oregon campus!” Noah exclaimed. His brow was furrowed, he looked concerned.

“Oh my goodness!” Nancy yelped.

“I biked all the way back to the Campbell Club after leaving the Dance-Off just to tell you about it, since you’re such a super mystery-solver,” added Scot, Editor-in-Chief of the Oregon Voice. He was exasperated.

Nancy Drew’s blue eyes twinkled. “Tell me the details!” she urged them.

The two boys explained to Nancy that there had been a Dance-Off between the Oregon Voice and Ethos Magazine that night. On his way home after celebrating a glorious victory, Noah had come to find that the Voice distribution box near the library had been broken.

“It was fully intact when I left work at the library this afternoon,” Scot related.

“Let’s not be hasty,” Nancy insisted. “After all, while it seems we have an idea of exactly the kind of person who would do such a thing, we can never be sure.”

The boys agreed. Alas, Nancy had another case to solve, and she would not rest until she brought the culprits to justice.
